In view of the high airport traffic season, Wednesday 5 June sees the start of ‘Marconi Express 949’: the new line on 100% electric buses activated by Marconi Express and Tper in agreement with the Municipality of Bologna City Council, will work alongside the monorail service during the summer, connecting Marconi Airport and the city centre directly, with the terminus in Piazza Malpighi. The line does not make intermediate stops.
The line will run for a period of three months until 29 September and will operate for 22 hours a day, starting at 4 a.m. (with the first run from Piazza Malpighi) until 2 a.m. (last run from the airport at 1.32 a.m.). The frequency will be one run every 33 minutes. The fleet that will operate the link consists only 100% electric buses.
Marconi Express tickets can be used on the new service at the same price as the monorail, with the possibility of payment through the ‘Pay&Go Contactless’ system at the turnstiles installed on the buses: the tickets provide 75-minute urban integration and full operability with the people mover.
Passengers can also use the new discount fare ‘Flex solo Bus 949′, worth EUR 9.80 for the single journey, without supplementary urban transport. The ticket can only be purchased online, at the ticket machine at the ‘Airport’ terminal (payment by credit card is recommended) and through the by credit card) and through the Roger app, selecting ‘Flex only Bus 949’.
In order to meet the needs of users, the night-time line ‘Marconi Express 940’ will remain active the next few weeks: ‘Marconi Express 940’ guarantees the connection between the High Speed station and the airport to passengers passengers departing with the first flights of the morning and arriving with the last ones of the night.
At the end of the summer period, Marconi Express and the Municipality of Bologna will assess whether to repeat the service.
